Analog Devices ADSP2181 DSP processor

The Analog Devices ADSP2181 is a 16 bit fixed point DSP processor. It runs at 33 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). One of its special features is its large on-chip memory (8 kbytes) which avoids the need for external memory in many applications, leading to simple and low cost systems. It also has a useful serial port which is especially helpful for telecommunications interfacing because of its built in support for Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).
